Water quality in both residential and commercial facilities has been in decline
for many years. As the water table becomes contaminated with waste and as the water
usage increases, water quality becomes more of a concern than ever. One of the most
popular technologies for treating water to remove ionic contaminants that can cause
problems with taste and smell is water softening and iron removing.
One form of
water softening and iron removing involves exchanging the ions in the water with
select ions in an exchange tank. This is done by contacting the water with a resin
that is covered with the select ions. The ions in the water are more attracted to
the resin than the ions that start on the resin, so they exchange places.
This removes
sulfur and other contaminants that cause water to taste bad, and iron and other
contaminants that cause the water to look bad Another form of water softening involves
using membranes to stop the ions that cause the problems with the taste and color,
while allowing the other types to pass. This is not as common in residential use,
but is growing in popularity with the commercial and industrial facilities.
Purimate(R)
specializes in water purification. We are experienced in both types of softening,
having built systems that can purify water for a number of different purposes. Whatever
types of water purification are required, Our technical crew will provide the technical
expertise to help you find your best solution. |

Water softeners AF series use the Ion exchange technology, the process of removing
ions from the water and replacing them with sodium ions and chloride ions. The most
common use forS this is residential, where a homeowner is trying to reduce the hardness
or improve the taste of the water. This also reduces deposits and scale that can
be left from water with a high level of hardness. In the case of water softening
the ion exchange resin are coated with Na+ and Cl-. Water flows over the resin.
The ions in the water attach themselves to the resin, and knock off the ions that
are already attached.
|
|
|
|
The resin is exhausted when all of the replacement ions are gone. In order regenerate
the resin, a strong solution (concentrated salt water called brine) of the replenishment
ions must be applied to the resin. Purimate AF systems also have excellent iron
removing qualities, although with high deposits of dissolved in water iron (above
3.0mg/l) there can be sufficient decrease of resin effective life capacity.
